These Batwa baskets stand out among African baskets due to their exceptionally tightly woven, small coils as well as their contemporary designs. The Batwa – the Twa people, a “pygmy” people – live in the border area of southwestern Uganda, northwestern Rwanda and eastern Congo, in the area of the Ruwenzori Mountains, in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They live among a native gorilla population just like we live among whitetail deer. 8” tall x 7 1/2” top diameter.
