This is an old, very well used shallow straw basket that would have been used in markets for the display of food products for sale. The basket is woven in tight coils in the style characteristic of Tutsi basket-making. The age of this basket is well evidenced by the obvious use to which it was put over its long life. This old basket measures 4″ deep x 21″ diameter (10 x 53 cm)
