This vintage, very well used, cloth is the real traditional Bambara “bogolanfini”, popularly known as mudcloth, using the hand-painting technique which distinguishes genuine mudcloth. The term “mudcloth” derives from the unique substance used to produce the dye for this cloth, fermented mud. The basic cloth is a relatively loosely hand-woven cotton, using larger gauge handspun cotton which is widely grown in Mali. Except for a minor repair this beautiful cloth is in excellent condition, in spite of its age. It measures 50 x 35″ (127 x 89 cm)
