Inflammation of the tissues (joints) is regulated by a number of molecules, the implementation of which is controlled by a single gene, NF-κB. This gene encodes the transcription factor that activates the synthesis of cytokines, prostaglandins and leukotrienes. When a joint or tissue is damaged or infected, the immune system releases these substances to initiate the first stage of repair (healing). Sometimes, particularly in the case of autoimmune diseases, the immune system mistakenly attacks tissues, causing chronic inflammation. The transcription factor NF-κB is the initial mediator of all inflammatory responses.
In vitro tests carried out by Laboratoires TEXINFINE on combined extracts of Castanea sativa and Portulaca oleracea showed inhibition by over 50% of the transcription factor NF-κB and of the two cytokines (IL-1β, PGE2) which play a major role in inflammatory processes.
