These Batwa baskets feature raffia wrapped coils in a contemporary checkerboard design. The Batwa – the Twa people, a “pygmy” people – live in the border area of southwestern Uganda, northwestern Rwanda and eastern Congo, in the area of the Ruwenzori Mountains, in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They live among a native gorilla population just like we live among whitetail deer. 6 1/8” tall x 7 1/8” top diameter.
