These Batwa baskets feature raffia wrapped coils in a contemporary checkerboard design. The Batwa – the Twa people, a “pygmy” people – live in the border area of southwestern Uganda, northwestern Rwanda and eastern Congo, in the area of the Ruwenzori Mountains, in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They live among a native gorilla population just like we live among whitetail deer. 4 3/4” tall x 4 1/2” top diameter.
