This very old portrait of a male deity in the Tao religion of the Dao (aka Yao) people of Viet Nam was painted on rice paper and would often consist of several layers of paper. This “mask” was made for and actually worn by a priest in ritual ceremonies. The name of the owner of the mask appears on the back of the mask. 8 1/2 x 7 5/8″ (21.6 x 19 cm)
