Very large Mossi millet beer pot – Burkina Faso

This exceptional ceramic object was made by hand by artisans in Burkina Faso over 100 years ago and it was used continuously during the succeeding period in a rural area of that country for the production of traditional, artisan millet beer, called “dolo”. The women, “dolotieres”, who make that low alcoholic content beer allow it to ferment for a 3-day period so the community is aware of the availability of that beer every 3 days. 23″ tall, 36″ diameter (58 x 91 cm) 30 1/2″ diameter of opening (77.5 cm)
